IPFire open source firewall updates PHP
The IPFire project developers have announced an update, Core Update 47, to version 2.9 of their IPFire open source firewall. IPFire is a Linux server distribution that can be booted from a CD or USB drive, or installed to a computer's hard disk drive.
The maintenance release includes the latest version of the PHP scripting language, PHP 5.3.5, a security update from January that addressed a floating point bug which could be used by a remote attacker to cause a denial-of-service (DoS) condition. Other changes include the addition of an option to configure Virtual LAN (VLAN) IDs that are used for Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) streaming, a new ssh ecdsa hostkey for encryption algorithms and fixes for the add-on service pid/memory display. An option to backup outgoing firewall group settings has also been added. All users are advised to upgrade.
Further information about the update can be found in the official release announcement and in the change log. IPFire 2.9 (Core 47) is available to download from the project's site and an installation guide is provided.
