GroundWork GroundWork Open Source has released version 6.0 of its network management suite. The US vendor has updated all three variants of the software – the free Community Edition as well as the commercial Starter and the Enterprise versions. The 6.0 release features a new, customisable JBoss Portal-based user interface with finely adjustable access rights. The developers have also reworked the Status Viewer. The new version is said to make switching from Nagios or an older version of GroundWork Monitor much easier for users. Newly designed APIs simplify the suite’s integration with various authentication systems.

GroundWork has also implemented a feature called Seurat View for displaying hundreds of (virtual) servers and services in large system environments. Freely configurable dashboards allow users to create highly customised views according to their own requirements. Developers are likely to be interested in a free SDK with sample code and documentation that is available to download at SourceForge. GroundWork Monitor Community Edition is released under version 2 of the GNU General Public License (GPLv2).
