GridGain updates their Open Cloud platform to 2.1

GridGain have released version 2.1 of their Java-based Open Cloud platform of the same name. GridGain is a development environment and a runtime platform for the creation of Java based enterprise applications that can live in the cloud. The platform is licensed under the LGPL and available to download and run on Windows, Unix, Linux and Mac OS X.

New features in GridGain 2.1 include "Cloud-aware" class loading, an improved MapReduce implementation and new early and late, load balancing abilities. A Maven repository has also been added, by user request, along with tighter Spring integration, pluggable marshalling and a new deployment implementation.

Nikita Ivanov, founder of the GridGain project said "GridGain 2.1 is the last release in the 2.0 product line and it concludes this phase in development of the GridGain platform. It incorporates all the major additions we wanted to slot in before the next 3.0 product line rolls out". He also talked about the platforms usage, saying "In fact, GridGain software starts every 60 seconds around the globe and roughly half of this usage already comes from Amazon EC2."
