GridGain 4 adds native clients and new monitoring functions

Version 4.0 of "big data" middleware application GridGain has been announced. The developers have added new security functions, a revised binary protocol for HTTP(S) connections, and new monitoring functions for accessing various system metrics. In addition to the existing .NET, C++, Groovy and Scala clients, GridGain also now offers clients for Objective-C, Ruby, PHP, Python and Node.js.

Thanks to a revamped discovery protocol, GridGain 4 should be able to reliably discover well over 1,000 network nodes in cloud environments, preventing cluster and data inconsistencies. The system now also offers improved methods of concurrent data loading that should improve efficiency, enabling data from sources such as Hadoop HDFS to be loaded into GridGain for real time analysis. Finally, a new LevelDB implementation allows GridGain to swap the memory available on the grid to a swap space, which means that the system can store more data in (virtual) memory.

GridGain Community Edition is released under the GPLv3 with the source code being available from GitHub. To use the full range of functionality, users will need a paid-for enterprise or OEM version. The company will provide pricing information on request.
