The potentially final beta of Firefox 4 is delayed to clear the last of the "blocker bugs", but this means the browser will miss its anticipated February release. In a posting on the mozilla.dev.planning last week, it was announced that the plans to build a Firefox beta 12 were delayed as the developers decided to hold the next beta release back until the final blocker bugs had been resolved.

At the time of writing, this concerned three blockers: a critical one involving a crash with Gmail Chat and two (1,2) related to the JavaScript engine's handling of unqualified function invocation; two blocker bugs were resolved over the weekend.

Despite earlier suggestions that there would be a beta 13, the current plan is that beta 12 will be the last beta before a release candidate. However, the developers reserve the right to have a beta 13 if issues in beta 12 require it. The delays will mean that Damon Sicore's hope, expressed in January, that Firefox 4 would ship in February will not come to pass. Mozilla plans to ship Firefox 4, 5, 6 and 7 this year in a new more aggressive release schedule.
