Appcelerator Logo The Appcelerator Inc developers have announced the availability of version 1.0 of their Appcelerator Titanium application framework and runtime platform. Using the Appcelerator Titanium framework, which was previously only available in beta form, developers can create applications for the desktop or for mobile devices using web technology including HTML, JavaScript, Python, Ruby and PHP.

According to Appcelerator Inc, its Titanium platform is the first cross-platform solution to be "on par with Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android SDKs". Jeff Haynie, CEO of Appcelerator said that, "After being in market 6 months, we realised that the user experience needs to be at parity with native development platforms. Anything less is a non-starter."

The company says that, over the last three months, it more than tripled its code base in the process of upgrading Titanium's mobile processing engine and claims that load times have been reduced from 10-20 seconds to under 3 seconds. Other notable changes include improvements to transitions between pages and improved processing speed. The community edition is available free of charge, while the professional version costs $199 per developer, per month.

More details about Appcelerator Titanium 1.0 can be found in the official announcement. Version 1.0 is available to download (direct download) for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux (32 and 64-bit) from the company's web site. API documentation and sample projects are available on the codestrong.com repository. Appcelerator Titanium for the desktop and mobile devices is available as open source code and released under version 2.0 of the Apache licence.
