Eugene Kaspersky, co-founder of Kaspersky Lab, says that he is convinced that malware will develop in the same way on mobile devices as it has done on standard PCs: he anticipates a massive increase in malware in the near future. According to its recent data, the company uncovered more mobile malware in December 2011 than over the entire 2004-2010 period.

Kaspersky said he believes that users will eventually need to protect mobile devices such as phones and tablets in the same way as they protect their existing PCs. In mid-February, Kaspersky Lab presented "Kaspersky ONE", a package for home users that includes software for Windows, Mac OS X and various smartphone operating systems. Tablet Security for Android tablets was released during this year's Mobile World Congress event and is now available via the Android Market. It includes a virus monitor, a feature that protects users from phishing sites, and functionality for locating a lost device and deleting the data that is stored on it.

Kaspersky also introduced beta versions of Parental Control apps for Android and iOS. The Android app is designed to prevent children from accessing inappropriate web sites, and with it, parents can also restrict the apps that their children have access to. Under iOS, Kaspersky Parental Control offers a custom browser – and a detailed instructions of how parents can restrict their children's access to other apps using built-in iOS options. The Android app is already available, while the iOS version is due to follow in March. During beta testing, both versions are available to download free of charge.
