Adobe's first patch Tuesday approaches

According to a blog post by Brad Arkin, Adobe's Director of Product Security and Privacy, Adobe will release its first quarterly security update for Reader and Acrobat next Tuesday. The first installement of updates comes after the recent announcement that Adobe will now release security updates on a quarterly basis, each quarterly update to coincide with a Microsoft Patch Tuesday. The Patch Tuesday updates from Microsoft are released on the second Tuesday of each month.

The updates will address security vulnerabilities in Adobe Reader and Acrobat versions 7.x, 8.x and 9.x for Windows and Mac OS X. Arkin said that Adobe considers the updates to be critical and he advises users to be prepared to install them. The critical rating means that, when exploited, the vulnerabilities could allow an attacker to remotely execute arbitrary code on a victims system.

More details about the updates will be posted to Adobe's Security Bulletins and Advisories support page on the 9th of June. Details regarding the security updates for the Unix platform, however, were not provided and "will be communicated when available."
