Following on from its security patch for Flash Player, Adobe has now released new versions of Adobe Reader 9.x and 10.x and Acrobat X for Windows and Macintosh ahead of schedule. They were originally intended for release on 25 April, but because of the numerous exploits for the vulnerability (CVE-2011-0611) already circulating in the wild, Adobe decided a little more urgency was called for. The vulnerability was first disclosed on 14 March and was provisionally patched shortly thereafter.

Because the vulnerability is classed as critical, Adobe's highest classification, users should update Adobe Reader 9 to version 9.4 and Adobe Reader and Acrobat X 10 to 10.0.3 without delay by either using the update function or by downloading manually; manual downloads for each product and platform are listed below:

According to security bulletin APSB11-08, Adobe Reader X Protected Mode catches the bug and users can therefore wait for the next regular update in June. Adobe Reader for Android, Adobe Reader 9.x for UNIX and Acrobat 8.x are not affected.
