openSUSE 11.3 Edu Li-f-e arrives

openSUSE Edu Less than one week after the release of openSUSE 11.3, the openSUSE Education development team have announced the availability of openSUSE 11.3 Edu: Linux for Education (Li-f-e). The Edu Li-f-e edition of openSUSE 11.3 is a customised variant of the Linux distribution aimed at education, specifically children and students. It includes resources for parents, and Educational applications that cover a range of subjects.

The latest release of the education-focused distribution includes a choice of several popular desktop environments, such as GNOME, KDE, Sugar (the award-winning learning platform made famous by the OLPC Project), IceWM and a preview of GNOME3. Educational applications in the distribution include development programs, such as IDEs, compilers and debuggers, an office suite and software for graphical designers, including GIMP, Inkscape and Blender. A number of Linux games are also built-in. As with previous releases, the LTSP server is included, so users can run openSUSE on PC's in a network without needing to install or modify local disks.
