openSUSE Edu Li-f-e 12.2 offers Cinnamon option

The Education team at the openSUSE project has released version 12.2 of its openSUSE Edu Li-f-e (Linux for Education) distribution with updated applications and a new desktop option. The custom Li-f-e variant of openSUSE for schools and educational institutions includes additional software and resources for students, teachers and parents.

As well as offering users a choice of either the GNOME 3.4 or the KDE 4.8.4 desktop environments like the standard version of openSUSE 12.2 upon which it is based, the Edu Li-f-e edition also includes version 1.5.7-1 of Cinnamon. This is a development snapshot of what will eventually become the stable 1.6 release of the Linux Mint project's fork of the GNOME Shell interface. The Sugar desktop suite, an award-winning learning platform popularised by the OLPC Project, is also included.

For educational administrators, Moodle, ATutor and FreeSMS (Free Student Management System) servers are also included. A full list of bundled packages is provided on the project's site.
