Transmission 2.30 BitTorrent client drops support for PowerPC Macs

On Mac OS X, only Intel-based systems can run the latest version of Transmission. The Transmission Project has released version 2.30 of its cross-platform BitTorrent peer-to-peer file sharing client. The latest stable version features support for the Micro Transport Protocol (µTP), the UDP tracker protocol and multiscrape, which allows the client to send multiple hashes each time it scrapes a tracker making it more efficient.

On Mac OS X systems, users can now remove all completed (finished seeding) transfers and the web interface is published over Wide-Area Bonjour, Apple's service discovery protocol. Grouping rules have been enhanced and support for machines with PowerPC processors has been removed – an Intel-based mac is now required. A number of interface tweaks have also been made.

Transmission 2.30 is available to download for a number of platforms – including Windows, Mac OS X and Linux – from the project's web site. Alternatively, users who have Transmission installed can use the built-in "Check for Updates" feature.

Transmission is dual-licensed under the MIT Licence and version 2 of the GNU General Public Licence (GPLv2).
