On their mailing list the Shale development team have announced an end to the Apache Shale project. Struts developer Craig McClanahan originally launched the web framework in 2004 as a JavaServer Faces (JSF) alternative for Struts developers.

Shale will now join HiveMind and migrate to the Apache Attic, a base for Apache projects at the end of their life cycle, which was set up in November 2008. Some code is likely to find its way into MyFaces, a JSF implementation under the Apache umbrella, as the MyFaces development team are interested in continuing development of the Shale test module.
