SpringSource, developer of the Spring framework for Java, has acquired G2One, a Groovy and Grails consultancy. G2One was founded by the Groovy and Grails leads, Guillaume Laforge and Graeme Rocher, and has been providing consultancy, training and support around the Groovy language and Grails web application framework. Both founders will maintain their leadership roles for Groovy and Grails, and no change in licensing of either is anticipated.

Guillame Laforge, commenting in his blog, said "Both Groovy and Grails will bring more dynamicity and agility to the Spring portfolio projects, thanks to tighter integration, cross-pollination, and further extensibility". The wide range of possibilities including management of Spring applications using Groovy, using Groovy as a domain-specific language for Spring and Groovy scripting consoles have been mentioned, but no immediate plans have been detailed. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
