Novell has released Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES2). New features include Domain Services for Windows, a result of the interoperability initiative with Microsoft, which recently celebrated its second anniversary. This allows users and group policies to be administered using Microsoft Management Console. Microsoft applications can be directly authenticated against a Novell eDirectory under OES.

Support for CIFS and the Apple Filing Protocol (AFP) has also been improved, which should facilitate the operation of heterogeneous networks containing Windows, Mac OS X and Linux clients. A new upgrade tool simplifies migration of existing Netware installations to Open Enterprise Server. OES2 is based on Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise 10, but is not an open source product; pricing is on request.
