Nearly three years after the release of SUSE Linux Enterprise (SLE) 10, Novell has released the server and desktop versions of SUSE Linux Enterprise 11. The release includes two new optional extensions. The Mono Extension brings the full .NET environment to Linux and the High Availability Extension contains additional software for use with clusters.

SLE 11 includes the 2.6.27 kernel, OpenOffice 3, Firefox 3 and the two desktop environments, KDE 4.1.3 and GNOME 2.24. The release also includes the Xen 3.3.1 hypervisor which incorporates Xen architectural improvements to provide better performance and security. The default file system has been changed from ReiserFS to Ext3. Ext3's successor, Ext4, is included, but without official support.

More details about the release can be found in the server release notes and the desktop release notes.
