Plans for NetBeans 6.10 revealed

The NetBeans developers have revealed their plans for NetBeans 6.10, next years edition of the Java based IDE; NetBeans 6.9 was released in June. The main theme for 6.10 will be improved Java EE and enhanced server support; the developers aim to unify the user experience when using different Java EE servers, especially WebLogic and Glassfish 3.1. A sub-theme of the development plans is improved support for PHP, JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Oracle database support will also receive attention with a plan to improve both the Oracle DB and MySQL driver functionality.

Performance and quality are the two other themes for NetBeans 6.10. A focus on scanning, navigation, code completion and external change detection, along with a "slowness detector" are parts of the plan for improving performance. Also noted as additional improvements will be Maven 3 integration, JUnit improvements and Git support. A beta of NetBeans 6.10 is scheduled for November 12, with a final release expected on 24th January 2011. An overview of the plans is available on the NetBeans wiki.
