Oracle Database Lite now synchronises SQLite databases

Oracle has announced that its commercial Database Lite offering for mobile devices is now capable of synchronising with SQLite databases. SQLite, the public domain embedded SQL database, has become widely used; Mozilla and Adobe, among others, incorporate it in their products and Apple use it in Mac OS X and the iPhone.

Oracle's Database Lite is a direct competitor on small devices, but also comes with a server component which allows Database Lite data to be synchronised with a remote, full-grown Oracle database. With the new version, Oracle says it will allow SQLite databases to also be synchronised with the full Oracle database through an "open architecture" though Oracle have not revealed any more details.

Oracle's new solution also allows for the centralised administration of SQLite based applications on mobile devices. Oracle Database Lite is priced at €16,500 per CPU for the server and €43 per client device. A trial version is available to download.
