Piwik 1.8.4 slashes memory usage
Source: Piwik
The latest version of the open source web analytics software Piwik includes optimisations to a core algorithm that will, according to its developers, decrease memory usage of the program by nearly 50 per cent. Piwik 1.8.4 also includes several user interface (UI) improvements and bug fixes.
Users monitoring sites that receive a lot of traffic should notice the decreased memory use the most. The developers say that the improvements made generating reports up to 40 per cent faster for such sites. The UI improvements in this version include better looking graphs, updated icons and a new way of viewing changes in the total number of visits to all tracked web sites in one place. The developers have also improved the password reset mechanism.
Piwik is an open source, self-hosted alternative to Google Analytics. Users include a JavaScript snippet in their web sites which enables the Piwik server to track visitor's interactions with them.
Piwik 1.8.4 is licensed under the GPLv3 and can be downloaded from the Piwik web site. Detailed documentation is also available.
