A security bug has caused the developers to withdraw PHP 5.2.7. They recommend using PHP 5.2.6 until a PHP 5.2.8 can be released. PHP 5.2.7, was only released last week and was claimed to enhance security and stability. The bug only affects configurations where magic_quotes_gpc is enabled because "it remains off even when set to on".

In other PHP developments, PHP 5.3 alpha 3 has been released, with a number of changes to namespaces and rounding behaviour. PHP 5.3 is expected to be released in a stable form by the end of Q1 2009; the alpha 3 release is labelled a "development preview".
