Fennec Alpha 1 for Windows Mobile released
The first alpha of Mozilla's Fennec mobile web browser has been released for Windows Mobile 6. The alpha release improves the stability and performance of the browser and is intended to get feedback from users, testers and Web developers. Fennec includes several elements from its desktop counterpart Firefox, such as tab browsing and the "awesome bar" (Smart URL bar).
The release includes improved memory management, updated interface controls that are entirely CSS based and several bug fixes. Start-up time has been reduced and panning and zooming are now even faster. The first alpha now includes the new TraceMonkey JavaScript engine and supports Add-ons. Fennec Alpha 1 for Windows Mobile 6 is targeted and tested for the HTC Touch Pro (also branded as the AT&T Fuze in the US), however, support for more devices will be added in future releases.
More details about the release can be found in the release notes. Fennec Alpha 1 for Windows Mobile is available to download (direct download) as a CAB file and an installation guide is available. Users running previous versions of Fennec are advised to un-install it prior to installing the current version. A short video walk through is also available.
