Open Recall: mod music, ttys on the web, arithmetic and education

Open Recall is a space on The H for those things that are too small to package as news but are worth the linkage. Open Recall collates the interesting stories that didn't quite make the cut.

• mod.js – Developer Nick Markwell has announced mod.js, a web-based MOD file player, written in JavaScript. The project is still a work in progress, but its web site includes a number of samples to try the software with.

• DjangoPi – Paul Hallett, a student at the University of Plymouth is trying to raise £1,000 towards building an educational web site with free-of-charge documentation for turning the Raspberry Pi into a Django web development environment. The project has currently achieved 30% of its funding goal with just over a month to go on the fundraiser. If the project is successful, Hallett will build the web site using Django and maintain it as part of the project. He also plans to promote it at Django and Raspberry Pi conferences.

• ttycast – With ttycast, users can stream their terminal session to the internet. The application is powered by Node.js and broadcasts the terminal session via a named pipe to the browser on a local system or over an SSH connection to a ttycast instance running on a remote server. This makes the program very useful for terminal-based tutorials. Source code for the project is available on GitHub.

• GNU MPC 1.0 – Version 1.0 of MPC, a high precision arithmetic C library, has been released under the auspices of the GNU project – the project's licence has changed to LGPLv3 for the library's source code and GFDLv1.3 for the project's documentation. Information about the new features and fixed bugs is available from the project's web site. This release, Fagus silvatica. is named after the European Beech tree and is available from the project's download page.
