OSCON: Open Source Awards
At the OSCON Conference, the O'Reilly Open Source Awards have been presented. Since 2005, the event organisers have been giving out these awards to people who have made an exceptional contribution to the development of open source software.
Karen Sandler, who has been at the helm of the GNOME Foundation for a month, received one of the prizes for her work as director of the Software Freedom Law Center's legal department. Qemu developer Fabrice Bellard received a prize for his contribution to the emulator and to ffmpeg. X11 developer Keith Packard and Node.js developer Ryan Dahl also received awards. The fifth award went to former Sun developer Kohsuke Kawaguchi for his work on the Jenkins fork of the Hudson continuous integration system. Kawaguchi wrote in a blog posting that he was "quite humbled and honored, (and I certainly hope I can finally convince my wife that I’m doing my part in making the world better)".
