NetBeans 6.7 beta integrates project Kenai

Sun Microsystems has released a beta for version 6.7 of its NetBeans open source development environment. The main new feature of the modular IDE for developing in Java, Groovy, Ruby, C/C++ and PHP is the Kenai collaboration platform, a connected developer destination that allows developer teams to host their projects for collaboration with other developers. Another focus is the native support of the Maven build system.

The developers have also added minor extensions to the NetBeans modules for Java, PHP, Ruby, Groovy and C/C++ developers. More details can be found in the release notes. Further new features include JavaScript 1.7 support, Rich SVG Components in the Visual Mobile Designer and an auto-diagnostic tool called "Profile Me Now!".

NetBeans 6.7 is designed to be an intermediary release between NetBeans version 6.5 and version 7.0, and focuses on minor changes and API compatibility. The developers plan to release the final version in June. The software is available under Sun's Common Development and Distribution License (CDDL) and the GPL 2.
