Miranda IM v0.9.0 messaging client released
The Miranda IM project developers have announced the release of version 0.9.0 of their open source instant messaging (IM) client. Miranda IM is a multi-protocol IM client for Windows systems that includes support for protocols such as AIM (AOL Instant Messenger), ICQ, IRC (Internet Relay Chat), Jabber, MSN and Yahoo. The client features a plug-in-based framework that allows users to easily customise their installations with over 350 different plug-ins.
According to lead developer Robert Rainwater, the major update includes a number of new features, many of which focus on improving unicode support and on overall protocol improvements. The 0.9.0 release is also the first official version to have a 64-bit core and support for the Windows 7 task bar. Other changes include a new icon theme, a Unicode-aware profile manager, support for SSL certificate validation and support for file transfers larger than 4 GB. The developers advise all users to upgrade to the latest release.
