Microsoft publishes Python Tools for Visual Studio Beta 2
Microsoft has published a second beta of its Python Tools for Visual Studio (PTVS) plug-in. According to the developers, the Beta 2 release is primarily a bug fix update that addresses the most reported problems, including those that lead to crashes.
Support for IronPython has reportedly been improved, while also fixing issues with both the WPF designer and Silverlight debugging. The installer has been updated and source control support has received fixes. According to the informal schedule for PTVS, a release candidate for version 1.0 is expected to arrive later this month. A final release is scheduled for July or August of this year.
First announced at PyCon 2011, the free plug-in for Microsoft's Visual Studio 2010 development environment enables Python developers to access the major features of the development environment – whether they use the CPython standard implementation or the IronPython .NET implementation.
Details about the second beta release, including a full list of bug fixes, can be found in the release notes. Python Tools for Visual Studio Beta 2 is available to download from Microsoft's CodePlex hosting site for open source projects. The Python Tools for Visual Studio plug-in is released under the Apache 2.0 licence.
