IronPython, the .Net implementation of the Python language, has been completed and released as final. IronPython is a CPython 2.5 compatible release, which now runs on the .Net Dynamic Language Runtime in .Net 2.0 SP1. This change has improved IronPython's interoperability with .Net and the ability to run Python code from managed code. Other improvements include the ability to target Silverlight, more C based modules, other optimisations for better performance and a new installer, which includes parts of the CPython standard library. It is now also possible to pre-compile Python source files into a single DLL, which should help in reducing start up times.

A change in licence to the Microsoft Public Licence moves IronPython out of the Shared Source Initiative and under the remit of an Open Source Initiative approved licence.
