"Sidux is dead" - reads the latest news post on the Sidux web site. However, Sidux fans have no cause for despair because the Sidux Linux distribution is now reborn as aptosid.

The name change is due to conflicts between the developers and the board of the registered non-profit Sidux e.V. association. Disputes between the board and the developers have been going on since mid-August and the developers decided to separate from the association shortly after the first board chairman resigned. As the Sidux domains are registered to the association, the Sidux developers have forked to a new name.

Despite the disagreements and the name change the goal of the project remains the same: a Linux distribution based on the Debian Sid branch that contains the latest versions of the Linux kernel, desktop and application software. Aptosid version 2010-02 version will use the 2.6.35 kernel and KDE 4.4.5. As was previously the case with Sidux, this will be available for downloading as a LiveCD image with an installation option. The developers plan to provide a clean upgrade path from Sidux to aptosid.
