Lightspark 0.4.5 to include new graphics engine

Lightspark Logo The Lightspark Project has confirmed that the next release of its free, open source Flash player, version 0.4.5, will include a new Advanced Graphics Engine. According to the developers, the updated graphics architecture will be faster and more powerful, resulting in better looking graphics and a reduction in overall CPU load.

Additionally, input support is said to have been complete redesigned and the team say that "the new approach is very robust", even in the "complex and crowded YouTube interface". However, the developers note that the release is currently on hold due to a bug in the library used in Lightspark to handle XML files, libxml++, that causes random crashes inside of Firefox. A PowerPC (PPC) port is also in the works and is progressing.

Further information about the upcoming release can be found in a post on the Technology Temple blog. The latest release of Lightspark is version 0.4.4.1, a bug fix release from the 2nd of September. Lightspark is licensed under the GPL.
