Lightspark Logo The Lightspark project has released version 0.4.5 of its open source Flash player. As previously announced, the latest version of the alternative Flash player implementation includes a new Advanced Graphics Engine. The developers say that the updated graphics architecture is even faster and more powerful than before, resulting in better looking graphics and a reduction in overall CPU load.

Work has already begun on the next version, which will include a brand new parser for the AMF3 and will be used to implement ByteArray::readObject, as well as support for Local shared Objects. Additionally, the developers are working on a supported application database that will allow users to report issues in the application.

More details about the release can be found in a post on the Technology Temple blog. Licensed under the GPL, Lightspark 0.4.5 is available to download as an Ubuntu package in a Launchpad PPA repository. Fedora 13 packages are also available for the i686 platform and installation instructions are provided on the project's wiki page.
