KDE SC 4.3.4: big fix for Linux desktop environment
The KDE developers have released KDE SC 4.3.4, the latest monthly bug fix release for the popular Linux desktop. In addition to a number of stability improvements, the new version also provides updated compilations for a number of languages. The change log describes the changes in detail.
KDE SC 4.3.4 is the first KDE release that the developer team calls a KDE Software Compilation (KDE SC). The new name is part of a marketing campaign. The appellation is intended to emphasise that the software is a combination of the KDE platform (Akonadi, Nepomuk, and Phonon), "workspaces" (Plasma for desktops and netbooks) and a number of applications. With this new name, the developers have retired the earlier "K Desktop Environment" label.
KDE is licensed under a combination of the LGPLv2, BSD, MIT and X11 licenses for core libraries and the GPLv2 or GPLv3 for applications. KDE 4.4, the next major release of the K Desktop Environment, is scheduled for the 9th of February, 2010.
