KDE The KDE developers have announced the availability of the second update to KDE 4.3. The maintenance release for the free open source K Desktop Environment (KDE) includes several bug fixes, translation updates and stability improvements.

According to the developers, the largest number of bug fixes in the release are for KMail, KDE's email client, "making it more reliable and usable". Other updates include several bug fixes for KWin's window compositing effects and overall stability improvements due to fixes for a number of "crashers" in KDE's core libraries. Okular, KDE's document viewer now, once again, allows saving files over a previous copy.

More details about the release, including binary package installation information, can be found in the official release announcement and the change log. Source packages for self-compilation and binary packages for various Linux distributions are available to download from the projects website.

KDE is licensed under a combination of the LGPLv2, BSD, MIT and X11 licenses for core libraries and the GPLv2 or GPLv3 for applications. KDE 4.4, the next major release of the K Desktop Environment, is expected to be available in February of next year.
