Jython logo Jython 2.5.0 final has been released by the developers. Jython, the variant of the Python language which runs on the Java virtual machine, has been updated to be language compatible with CPython 2.5, the C implementation of the Python language. Originally developed in 1997 by Jim Hugenin as JPython, Jython allows Java developers to either embed the Python scripting language into their applications, or use it stand-alone as an alternative Python implementation.

The final release is identical to the RC4 release candidate released just over a week ago. The 2.5 development, which has been in in progress since 2007, has focussed on making the the Jython implementation less brittle and more amenable to future development. The developers will now, probably, have their eyes on developing a Jython 3.0 for compatibility with Python 3.x which arrived at the end of last year.
