Groovy Logo The Groovy developers have announced the simultaneous release of Groovy 1.7.10 and the third release candidate (RC3) for Groovy 1.8. Groovy is an open source dynamic scripting language for the Java Virtual Machine (JVM).

According to the developers, the stable 1.7.10 Groovy update "fills the gap" left by the previous version which, "due to some hiccup during the release process", did not include all of the fixes which the developers intended to be bundled. All users are advised to upgrade.

The 1.8 RC3 release, on the other hand, addresses a potential synchronisation issue that could affect users of ExpandoMetaClasses. The final version of Groovy 1.8 is expected to arrive before the end of the month.

Further information about the releases can be found in the 1.7.10 and in the 1.8 RC3 release notes. Both versions are available to download from Codehaus.org. Groovy is licensed under version 2.0 of the Apache licence.
