The Groovy development team have announced the simultaneous release of Groovy 1.6.6 and of Groovy 1.7 RC1. Groovy is an open source dynamic scripting language for the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). The 1.6.6 Groovy update is the latest stable release and contains several bug fixes and minor enhancements.

In addition to various bug fixes and improvements, Groovy 1.7 RC1, the first release candidate of the final version of Groovy 1.7, features better support of @Grape in the Groovy Console, fixes for line numbers, a new output visualisation mode showing the output in an external window instead of in the bottom output pane and the ability to specify a Grape resolver to indicate where Grapes can be downloaded from. The draft release notes for the 1.7 final release cover all of the major new changes, including initial support for anonymous inner classes and nested classes, extended support for annotations, an enhanced assert method and a rewrite of the GroovyScriptEngine.

More details about the releases can be found in the 1.6.6 and the 1.7 RC1 release notes and in the Groovy change log. Both versions are available to download from the project's web site and released under version 2.0 of the Apache License.
