FreeBSD Logo The FreeBSD Release Engineering Team has announced the arrival of the second and final release candidate for version 8.2 of its popular free Unix derivative. Aimed at early adopters and testers, the RC2 release addresses a number of bugs found in the previous RC and Beta builds.

According to the developers, the release schedule has "slipped a bit" from the original target schedule – at the time of this posting, the final version of FreeBSD 8.2 is scheduled for 24 January. As with all development releases, use in production environments and on mission critical systems is not advised. Users testing the release are encouraged to provide feedback and report any bugs that they encounter.

More details about the second release candidate can be found in a post on the FreeBSD mailing list and on the Release Engineering wiki. FreeBSD 8.2 RC2 is available to download from one of the project's FTP mirrors. The latest stable release is FreeBSD 8.1 from late July of this year.
