The open source fault management company Rivermuse have announced the availability of RiverMuse ES, an enterprise supported version of the RiverMuse Core, the GPLv3 licensed free software version. Functionally, Core and ES are the same, but ES offers 8/5 support and indemnification.

RiverMuse ES is available as a subscription product and is priced on the basis of number of "Managed objects" (systems, applications on systems or multi-port devices) and prices start at around $13,000 for up to 500 managed objects. According to Paddy Bell, Business Development Director at RiverMuse, the move towards pricing by managed object allows users a greater freedom to distribute their fault management infrastructure within the organisation, placing servers where appropriate.

RiverMuse has also announced an update, to version 4.1.7, of RiverMuse Core, which includes improvements to the desktop GUI, such as better view/filter and rules editing, support for desktop extensions and embeddable JavaScript content for the web based front end. The developers have optimised SNMP handling and the update includes C++, PHP and Perl APIs for customisable sending of events. The community version is available to download as source or as binary versions for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and CentOS 5.
