Debian project seeks hardware sponsors
The Debian project is looking for sponsors to support its two new official services. The project states that both of the new services, snapshot and data archives, utilise large amounts of data and to start with, require machines capable of running a 10TB large disk array.
The project wants to acquire an independent storage array that will be a disk shelf based SATA SAN. Initially the SAN will have approximately 12 individual 1TB SATA hard drives, for an "ideal compromise between price and capacity." The hardware should also include at least two recent CPUs and 32 GB of RAM. The plan includes redundant deployment in two separate geographical locations. US-based hosting is not possible for legal reasons. Both services will ideally be running the same hardware, provided the resources area available.
Sponsors will be mentioned on Debians web server and may be named on the service web pages as well. Interested sponsors can contact the project at hardware-donations@debian.org
