Two weeks after releasing CentOS 6.0, the CentOS Project development team has released its promised LiveCD images. The LiveCD has been generated using Fedora tools, as Red Hat does not produce live media for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, which CentOS is based on.

The ISO for the LiveCD, which is available for i386 and x86-64 from various mirror sites, uses Gnome desktop and includes gthumb, Gimp, Firefox, Thunderbird and Pidgin, among others. The live image can also be used to install the RHEL clone.

According to one tweet, the developers are now working on a minimal CD installation image of CentOS 6.0. Work on both CentOS 6.1 and 5.7 is ongoing – the latter will be based on source code for the recently released RHEL 5.7.
