Version 12.0 of the Calculate Linux distribution has been released; the new version includes improvements to the installer, the system settings, and to the appearance in the Xfce version. Calculate Linux is available with a KDE, GNOME or Xfce desktop and as a directory server version. Also available are a dedicated media centre image and "scratch" versions for desktop and server use. The scratch editions contain the bare minimum packages to get a working system up and running and provide all the development packages to further customise it for specific uses.

In Calculate Linux 12.0, the distribution's utilities have been reworked and now allow installation over the network from other clients in addition to the usual local media. New system settings have also been added and both installation and post-install configuration can now be accomplished with graphical tools as well as from the command line. Other improvements mostly concern the Xfce version which now uses the Adwaita theme from GNOME 3 and has a new default image viewer. The GIMP package has been updated to the latest stable version 2.8 across all editions of the distribution.

Further details of the changes in Calculate Linux 12.0 are available in the release announcement. Images for the different editions of the distribution for both 32- and 64-bit versions are available from the project's download page. The developers also provide an update guide for older versions of the distribution.
