The ArchBang project has released the 2011.01 edition of its ArchBang Linux distribution, code named "Symbiosis". Like Arch Linux, upon which it is based, ArchBang is a simple and lightweight Linux distribution for i686 and x86-64 platforms aimed at Linux users who want to create "their own ideal environment" and install only what they need. However, ArchBang uses the minimalistic Openbox window manager with support for its pseudo-tiling functions.

According to developer Willensky Aristide, the latest version of ArchBang is even "lighter than before" and features a new look, as well as the 2.6.36 Linux kernel. Package updates include the current 2.13 release of the Transmission BitTorrent client, AbiWord 2.8.6, Gnumeric 1.10.12 and version 8 of the Chromium web browser. Other changes include the addition of the latest X.org video drivers and updated documentation. A GUI for the installer has yet to be added – ArchBang only includes a text-based installer. Aristide asks users running ArchBang 2011.01 to report any issues they discover on the project's forums.

Further details about the release can be found in an announcement news post. At the time of this posting, the release notes have yet to be updated. ArchBang Linux 2011.01 is available to download from the project's site and an installation guide is provided. Hosted on SourceForge, ArchBang is licensed under the GPLv3.
