Apache Stonehenge reaches first milestone

The Apache Stonehenge developers have released the first milestone of their project to provide service oriented architecture (SOA) example applications based on W3C and OASIS protocols. Stonehenge entered the limelight in January when Microsoft contributed code to the incubating Apache project. Stonehenge hopes to demonstrate interoperability between different protocols and software infrastructures and to provide developers with example implementations they can base their own work on.

The project was introduced to the Apache Incubator, where new projects are matured to become top level Apache projects, last year by middleware specialists WSO2. At JavaOne, Microsoft pointed to Stonehenge as an important element in developing interoperable systems. Other companies involved with Stonehenge include Red Hat and Progress.
