Selected events coming up in the UK and elsewhere in August

The H Community Calendar presents the coming month's events in various open source, development, Linux, Unix and other communities, from multi-day conferences to user group get-togethers.

2nd 2 August - PHP - London SE1

Who: PHP London
What:
PHP "PubCon" – regular monthly social meeting. This month's talk is on "Unique ID Generation in Distributed Systems" by Dave Gardner. Note: this meeting is at a new venue: the Cafe at Google Campus.

8th 8 August - Linux - Reading

Who: Silicon Corridor Linux User Group

A regular social evening for Linux users in the Reading area.

11th 11 August - Linux - London EC2A

Who: Greater London Linux User Group

Greater London LUG Meetup – GLLUG is excited to announce the first meeting of the group for over two years. Open to anyone who is keen to discover something new about Linux, Android, Free and Open Source Software, Open Hardware and Free Culture, and meet new people with the same interests.

13th 13 August - Ruby - London EC1V

Regular monthly meetup – two talks this month: "Cut and Polish: Crafting Gems", about writing rubygems, and "nil points: a talk about nothing, NULL, undefined, Maybe, and other ghosts in Ruby and beyond".

Who: OggCamp
What: OggCamp 12 – the biggest community-organised Linux event in the UK. Now in its fourth year, this annual barcamp-style unconference focuses not only on free software, but also on open hardware hacking and free culture.

20th 20 August - Groovy & Grails - London

London Developer Sessions – regular monthly social meeting.

15-16 September - Hardware - Hebden Bridge

Who: OSHUG – Open Source Hardware User Group
What: Open Source Hardware Camp 2012 – a weekend-long event with nine talks on the Saturday and four parallel workshops on the Sunday.

15-16 September - Bitcoin - London WC1B

Who: Bitcoin 2012
What:
Bitcoin Conference London 2012 – the aim of this conference is to be the hub for bitcoiners wishing to learn, meet, do business and expand their minds. The hope is that this will be a turning point in bringing bitcoin to the fore of the mainstream.
Cost:

13-14 October - Python - Dublin, Ireland

27 October - FLOSS - London WC2E

Who: FLOSS UK and BCS OSSG

FLOSS UK unconference – An unconference is a conference where what happens is organised by the delegates on the day. A good opportunity to build informal relationships in the UK open source community and keep up with new and emerging technologies.
