Sony logo Sony is not being allowed to restart its PlayStation Network (PSN) in Japan because it has not completed the measures needed to prevent a recurrence of the data breach. Kazushige Nobutani, director of the Media and Content Industry department at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry told Dow Jones Newswires that Sony had not completed measures it said it would carry out at its 1 May press conference. Nobutani did not provide details of the outstanding issues but said that the department required further explanation before granting approval for the restarting of the service.

Sony began a phased restart of PSN in the US, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East over the weekend. Nobutani noted that Sony had also not given them sufficient details of how it planned to restore confidence in its protection of user data. A Sony spokesperson said that the company was still engaged in talks with various authorities in Japan and Asia.
