To close numerous security holes, Microsoft plans to include a slew of functions from the current Office 2007 in the previous version of its office suite. Service Pack 3, for which no release date has yet been announced, is expected to be devoted to security, Microsoft's product manager Joshua Edwards told US industry website CNet.

He said the vendor plans to offer as many functions as possible from the current Office 2007 as free downloads for the previous version. However, Edwards says that all of the functions will work under the surface; there will be no ribbons, for instance, in Office 2003 applications even after SP3 has been installed. Office 2003 has needed fixing to close security holes for some time, particularly for the open holes that are increasingly popular among industry spies.
