Norman virus scanner paralyzes servers

Since Norman released an update for the virus scanner Norman Virus Control, numerous administrators report that Windows servers are crashing. Norman have confirmed that the update to version 5.90 can make the Windows file servers hang at irregular intervals.

The manufacturer is working under extreme pressure to find a solution and has already developed a preliminary patch which is said to have been helpful in some cases. As an alternative, Norman recommends deactivating the "Scan on Write" option in the scanner settings. According to the error report, a final patch will be available soon.
