New version of CrypTool cryptography learning system

Version 1.4.00 of the CrypTool cryptography learning system has been released. The new features include the visualization of multiple challenge/response methods, the demonstration of a side-channel attack on the textbook RSA protocol, and three methods of attack on RSA based on the lattice reduction method. The online help has also been revised and expanded.

The installation package for Windows is available for free in German and English. The program also runs on the Linux and FreeBSD under the Windows emulator Wine with a few restrictions, such as for 3-D visualization. CrypTool is Open Source and licensed under the GNU Public License, though it does also build on closed-source components.

CrypTool is designed to make users familiar with both basic and advanced cryptography and crypto-analysis concepts. Various encryption and signature algorithms can be applied to user data and encrypted data analyzed using common methods from the program's own user interface. The initiators of the project include the University of Siegen, the Technical University of Darmstadt, and Deutsche Bank.
