Since the beginning of August, updates for Microsoft's Office suites are no longer available from the Office website. They are now only available as part of the general Microsoft Update service.

As quietly announced in May, Microsoft has shut down its separate Office update service and, since the start of August, has been distributing updates for its Office suite via the central Microsoft Update address. Users looking for patches from Office are now automatically redirected to the new site and are now no longer able to set up separate automatic updates for Windows and Office. To prevent restarts at inconvenient times, users are advised to configure Windows to manually process updates. While previously Office could be set to install updates automatically, this is no longer possible.

Microsoft recommends that users and administrators that have to manage a large numbers of computers use Windows Server Update Services. The Office Update Inventory Tool previously recommended for this purpose is still available to download, but, since July, is no longer being maintained.
