Google acquires German security firm Zynamics
Google has acquired German security software vendor Zynamics. The official announcement was made in a brief weblog posting by the company's CEO, Thomas Dullien , who is also known as Halvar Flake in the security scene. No further details of the take-over have been announced.
Zynamics develops and distributes such programs as BinDiff, BinNavi and VxClass, which enable companies to prevent system vulnerabilities and to analyse malicious software. In 2007, reverse engineering expert Dullien became known to the wider public after being refused entry into the United States on his way to a Black Hat conference. Previously, he had already won the 2006 German IT security prize, worth €100,000.
In his blog, Dullien writes that Google's interest in Zynamics came as a surprise, even to him. The executive said that Zynamics is far away from Google's core business, and that it has little to do with web technologies.
