Error in CA antivirus paralyses Windows 2003
A defective signature update for the eTrust virus scanner from CA identified the lsass.exe system file on Windows 2003 server systems as malware and immediately deleted it. As a result, affected servers hung with a grey screen during the next reboot. Signature update VET 30.3.3056 followed quickly thereafter and corrected the error, but could not recreate already deleted lsass.exe files.
CA has posted details in its support area on reviving affected servers. The official SBS blog also offers help.
